The Congress party has voiced strong opposition to the Rajasthan government's recent decision to excise four books from the school syllabus for the upcoming 2026-27 academic session, labeling the move an 'attack on history'.
According to Govind Singh Dotasra, head of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, the books targeted include 'Rajasthan's Freedom Movement and Valour Tradition' for class 9, 'Rajasthan's History and Culture' for class 10, and 'Golden India After Independence' parts 1 and 2 for classes 11 and 12. Dotasra claims the decision reflects an agenda to rewrite historical narratives and minimize the role of Congress figures in India's past.
Critics argue that the move aims to reshape historical discourse by omitting important contributions made by Congress leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. While no response was immediately available from the state's authorities, the directive to remove the books was issued by the Directorate of Secondary Education's social education wing upon the board's advice.
