Supreme Court Orders Halt on NCERT Textbook Amid Controversy

The Supreme Court has voiced its discontent with the NCERT's decision to revise a controversial chapter in a class 8 social science textbook. The revised content, which addresses corruption in the judiciary, has not been vetted by designated experts and the court has ordered the publication halted.

The court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, has mandated that no content be published without approval from a committee of domain experts, which casts doubt on the transparency of the revision process. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assures the court that all rewritten chapters will undergo thorough examination.

NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani has apologized for the lapse and confirmed the seizure of all printed copies. This chapter, previously circulated partially, will remain under stringent review to prevent future discrepancies, and the Supreme Court has imposed a blanket ban on the book's further dissemination.
