Punjab's Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, revealed a significant proposed budget of Rs 19,279 crore for the education sector for the fiscal year 2026-27. This allocation, announced during the state budget presentation, aims to further Punjab's educational reforms by redesigning the education ecosystem for upcoming generations.
Cheema emphasized that Punjab's education reforms have transitioned from promises to tangible transformations. Over the past four years, efforts to upgrade infrastructure and strengthen foundational learning within the government school system have laid the groundwork for 'Punjab Sikhiya Kranti'. The initiative prioritizes education on their political agenda, aiming to prepare the state's education system for global standards.
To bolster this mission, the government plans to launch 'Sikhiya Kranti 2.0' with an additional Rs 3,500 crore investment over six years in collaboration with the World Bank. The initiative will enhance literacy, expand science and commerce streams, empower educators, and implement a statewide Career Counselling Framework to prepare students for global competition.
