The Gujarat Education Department has launched an investigation after a Class 6 student from a private school in Ahmedabad allegedly placed naphthalene balls in a classmate's water bottle, an act officials described as a prank. The incident, dated January 28, has prompted action by the authorities.

The affected student, acting quickly, refrained from drinking the tainted water after detecting an unusual odor. Although no harm was caused, the school in Ahmedabad's Maninagar area has been fined Rs 10,000 for negligence and delayed reporting of the event.

CCTV footage, now circulating on social media, shows the act in progress. Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja confirmed a show-cause notice has been issued, and emphasized the responsibility of schools to ensure student safety. A report and CCTV evidence are being demanded for further inquiry.
