Chaos erupted on Mumbai's suburban rail network early Monday when an empty train coach derailed near Dombivli station. The incident caused significant delays of up to 30 minutes, significantly affecting commuters during rush hour.
According to officials, the derailment occurred at 8:09 am as the train was moving from Kalwa car shed to Kalyan. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The affected train services resumed approximately two hours later after the coach was re-railed.
Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nila, confirmed that normal operations on the affected slow line resumed by 10:45 am. A senior divisional safety officer is investigating the cause, while Accident Relief Trains were promptly deployed to the site.
