Pune, April 16 - The Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) industry in Pune has initiated a temporary and structured pause in operations, affecting all RMC plants in the district from April 15. This decision, made by the industry collectively, aims to enhance compliance, safety, environmental performance, and operational standards as a proactive step towards sustainability.

The sector, which supplies nearly 9 lakh cubic meters of concrete monthly through around 300 operational plants, generates an estimated ₹450 crore in monthly revenue and directly employs 12,000 workers. The temporary halt is intended to strengthen long-term operational efficiency and standardization.

Despite accounting for only a small fraction of construction-related dust, RMC plants continuously adopt advanced dust-control measures. This proactive closure will allow for internal audits, system upgrades, and workforce training, setting the stage for improved practices and engagement with governing bodies for a unified regulatory framework.
