The Indian government's decision to implement only a partial increase in jet fuel prices has been welcomed by the aviation industry, with SpiceJet Chairman Ajay Singh describing it as a significant relief during these turbulent times.
Amid global uncertainties and airspace restrictions in West Asia, airlines have been navigating longer international flight routes, raising concerns about soaring operational costs. The intervention, therefore, comes as a timely measure to assist carriers in managing these challenges.
Under the purview of the Ministry of Petroleum and in consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, PSU oil marketing companies have decided on a controlled hike of 25 percent or Rs 15/litre. This measured response is expected to help stabilize the industry in coping with fluctuating fuel markets and other external disruptions.
