Late Sunday night, a tragic event unfolded at New York's LaGuardia airport when an Air Canada Express jet collided with a fire truck, resulting in the deaths of both pilots and injuries to dozens, according to authorities. The incident has prompted a closer examination of aviation safety protocols.

The Air Canada Express CRJ-900, operated by Jazz Aviation, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew from Montreal. Kathryn Garcia, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, reported that out of 41 injuries, 32 have been discharged, while nine remain hospitalized with severe injuries. This includes the fire truck's two officers, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire truck, responding to a separate United Airlines flight that reported an odor issue, was cleared to cross the runway just before the collision. The incident resulted in the closure of one of New York's busiest airports, leading to significant travel disruptions and a deployment of technical experts from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board to investigate.
