Puducherry's hotels are teetering on the brink of closure due to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. Industry insiders revealed the dire situation on Wednesday, highlighting their struggle to find viable alternatives in this popular tourist hub.
The Hotels Association spokesman noted that some establishments have switched to firewood cooking or limited operations to cope. The rising cost of firewood, now at Rs 1000 per 'kundu', exacerbates the crisis, especially since firewood can't cater to all cuisines.
Despite a meeting with the Chief Secretary, the government's prioritization of domestic LPG users leaves hoteliers without a clear resolution. The tourism-dependent region anxiously awaits relief as affected eateries face reduced menus and operational disruptions.
