LPG Price Hike Amid Global Crisis: Impact on Indian Consumers
The domestic cooking gas LPG price in India has been increased by Rs 60 per cylinder due to the West Asia crisis affecting global energy rates. Despite the hike, the price remains below the breakeven point. Government officials assure that petrol and diesel prices won't increase immediately due to oil companies' financial stability.

On Saturday, the price of domestic cooking gas, commonly known as LPG, saw a significant hike of Rs 60 per cylinder, marking the second increase within a year. The surge comes as a response to escalating global energy prices, triggered by the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
Despite concerns, top government sources confirmed that there are no immediate plans to raise petrol and diesel prices. They mentioned that state-owned oil firms have the financial strength to absorb potential increases without burdening consumers.
Currently, non-subsidised LPG costs Rs 913 per cylinder in Delhi, a steep rise from the previous Rs 853. This hike also impacts beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana, who will now pay Rs 613 per cylinder after a subsidy. The international situation has caused disruptions, but LPG in India remains more affordable than in many neighbouring countries.
