Cochin Shipyard Secures Landmark USD 360 Million Order from French Giant CMA CGM
Cochin Shipyard has secured USD 360 million in shipbuilding orders from France's CMA CGM Group to build six LNG-powered vessels, marking the first such order to an Indian entity. This agreement advances the shipyard's order book to Rs 23,000 crore, with the first ship due by February 2029.

Cochin Shipyard has clinched a significant shipbuilding order from France's CMA CGM Group, valued at USD 360 million (approx. Rs 3,267 crore), to deliver six LNG-powered vessels.
The agreement, signed in the national capital and witnessed by Minister Shantanu Thakur, marks a historic first for the French logistics leader to commission an Indian shipbuilder. Cochin Shipyard's chairman, Jose V J, stated that the first ship would be completed by February 2029, with subsequent deliveries paced annually.
The vessel design will be undertaken by Korea Maritime Consultants, constructed at Cochin Shipyard's Kerala facility, each with a 1700-TEU capacity at a cost of USD 60 million per unit. This collaboration aligns with India's Maritime Vision 2047, backed by Indian Prime Minister Modi, as CMA CGM aims to enhance trade routes like the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor.
