The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced an increase in luggage charges, effective February 16, to offset rising costs in diesel and staff salaries. This adjustment follows the passenger fare hike initiated in January 2025, which did not initially accompany a luggage charge revision.
Officials explain that changes in luggage rates typically coincide with fare adjustments, yet an update was missed last year. Consequently, the charges will now increase by approximately 15 percent, matching the fare rise. Up to 30 kg of luggage will remain free, after which charges will apply based on travel stages.
The new rates are structured in stages, beginning at Rs 6 for stages 1-5 and escalating to Rs 145 for stages 156-160. This strategic revision aims to balance the corporation's budget amidst escalating operational costs. The previous revision of luggage charges was observed in December 2021.
