In recent years, India's embrace of electronic toll collection has transformed the national highways' landscape. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that out of 11.86 crore issued FASTags, 5.9 crore are actively being used across the country, marking a significant shift towards digital toll collection.

FASTag, a passive RFID tag, has streamlined user fee operations with over 98% of toll payments on national highways now being electronic. In his statement to the Rajya Sabha, Gadkari highlighted an impressive rise in the adoption of FASTag, crediting it with improved toll operation efficiency and reduced congestion.

The swift implementation, reflected in the activation of around 42 lakh annual passes facilitating 19 crore transactions, showcases substantial gains in user convenience. The toll collection from 2022-2025 has reached a staggering Rs 1,65,322.67 crore, emphasizing the economic impact of this tech-forward initiative.
