The government's commitment to job creation was reaffirmed on Monday, with Minister Shobha Karandlaje emphasizing employment generation as a top priority amidst rising concerns over youth unemployment. In her statement to the Lok Sabha, she noted a considerable improvement in the Worker Population Ratio, which has grown from 46.8% in 2017-18 to 58.2% in 2023-24, reflecting positive employment trends.
To bolster the workforce, the government has implemented several employment schemes under the Skill India Mission (SIM), which is dedicated to reskilling and upskilling the youth through initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. These efforts aim to make the Indian youth ready for future challenges with industry-relevant skills.
Aiding this mission, the Ministry of Labour and Employment operates the National Career Service Portal as a comprehensive resource for job seekers, providing access to job listings, career counseling, and skill development courses. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, an Employment Linked Incentive scheme with a budget of Rs 99,446 crore, targets the creation of over 3.5 crore jobs, with a particular focus on boosting the manufacturing sector.
