Foreign investors are strategically adjusting their portfolios, reducing holdings in traditionally defensive sectors like energy and consumer staples while boosting investments in cyclical areas such as transportation, telecom, and healthcare, a new report by Elara Securities reveals.

The analysis indicates a 9.3% year-on-year decline in foreign interest in the energy sector, a 10.1% decrease in utilities, and a 7.3% drop in consumer staples. In contrast, sectors witnessing an upswing include industrials with a 3.9% rise, healthcare at 12.9%, and telecom climbing 14.4%.

The report emphasizes a clear strategic shift towards sectors projected to have strong earnings and growth potential. Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors continue to favor counter-cyclical buying, particularly in consumer discretionary and financials, highlighting confidence in India's economic expansion. Retail investors show mixed participation, with notable interest in media and real estate.
