In a move aimed at ensuring affordable fertilisers for Indian farmers, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for the Rabi season 2025-26. This decision comes as part of the government's continued efforts to support the agricultural sector amid fluctuating global fertiliser markets.
Effective from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, the approved subsidy rates are expected to maintain an uninterrupted supply of Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers, including essential nutrients like Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and various NPKS grades. The cabinet emphasized the move's significance in stabilizing prices for farmers while adjusting subsidies in response to recent global price trends.
The NBS scheme, operational since 2010, offers financial assistance to fertiliser manufacturers and importers, enabling them to provide these products at reasonable prices to the agricultural community. With a tentative budgetary allocation that surpasses the Kharif season's estimates by Rs 736 crore, this initiative highlights the Indian government’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural economy.
