In a significant development, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the Rabi season of 2025-26. This decision, effective from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, is set to keep the fertilisers Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and NPKS (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potash, and Sulphur) accessible and affordable for farmers, according to an official press release.
The projected budgetary allocation for this initiative amounts to approximately Rs 37,952.29 crore, marking a Rs 736 crore increase from the Kharif season of 2025. The government emphasizes maintaining a consistent supply to farmers and adjusting subsidy levels in accordance with current global price trends of vital fertiliser ingredients.
This approval aligns with evolving international market conditions for fertiliser components such as urea, DAP, muriate of potash (MOP), and sulphur. Subsidies will be dispensed to fertiliser companies per the sanctioned rates to guarantee affordability for farmers nationwide, ensuring continuity in supply throughout the Rabi cropping season, as stated in the Cabinet's announcement.
