On Wednesday, the Congress took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticizing the significant decrease in net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into India. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera called on Modi to reflect on his advice from 12 years ago, when he urged the then Congress-led government to focus on economic stability.
Khera cited statistics indicating a 159% drop in net FDI in August, where more capital exited the country than entered. Additionally, the growth of India's eight core sectors dipped to a three-month low of 3%, while the tech sector’s job prospects for FY26 appear bleak.
The Congress leader also shared Modi’s 2013 social media post directed at former finance minister P Chidambaram, stressing the need to concentrate on economics instead of engaging in political squabbles. Amid the FDI downturn highlighted in the RBI's recent bulletin, the party urges Modi to undertake corrective measures to revitalize the economy.
