The Central Railway has successfully launched 705 special trains to accommodate Diwali and Chhath festivities, transporting over 10.6 lakh passengers, according to senior officials on Tuesday. General Manager Vijay Kumar noted the planned operation of 1,998 festive trains from September 19 to November 30 to handle an anticipated rush of over 30 lakh passengers.

Main departure points, including Pune and Mumbai, have witnessed heightened activity with 600 special trains originating from Mumbai alone. Approximately 24 trains will commence daily from the Mumbai division over the next few days to facilitate smooth travel to states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Kumar stated.

In preparation for increased passenger numbers, provisions such as expanded holding areas at stations like LTT, heightened security measures, and pre-assigned platforms have been put into effect. This initiative aims to streamline passenger movement and enhance safety during the festive period, Kumar confirmed.
