Yoga is India's gift to the world for a healthy life. The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is observed on June 21 by the United Nations since 2015. The first IDY was celebrated in 192 of 193 member countries of the UN on June 21, 2015, but it's more popular for unparallel voluntarism from throughout the globe irrespective of linguistic, national, regional, civilisational, racial and continental variations.

This year the United Nations has chosen - 'Yoga for Climate Action' - as the theme for Yoga Day 2019, to create awareness on climate change affecting the entire globe. Therefore, the UN is also holding a panel discussion on June 21 in New York to discuss to build human awareness about the perils of climate change and global warming and to come up with a holistic and ethnic framework to heal the environment.

"The theory and practice of Yoga is a choice contributing towards a cleaner greener and more sustainable future," said Syed Akbaruddin, India's Permanent Representative at United Nations in his opening remark at the main event organised for celebrations of 5th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2019.

The participants were provided mats but due to rain, they performed the Yoga on their seats in UNGA. Besides, cultural festivals were also organised.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lead the main event of Yoga celebrations at Ranchi. "I want to take yoga from cities to the village of the country and make it accessible to all," said Modi. Here over 30 thousand Yoga enthusiasts took part in the event amid high security at Prabhat Tara Park in Ranchi.

Yoga celebrations were also organised in Abu Dhabi, Turki, Sri Lanka, China, Russia, Australia and also in other countries of the world. In Delhi, around 250 diplomates of 56 countries performed Yoga. The security forces in India celebrated Yoga Day in an innovative style with their trained dog squads.
